Thralls are an amazing part of the Conan Exiles experience. When you get that first lesser wheel of pain, the urge to go capturing thralls is pretty strong. Trying to get the right thralls is tricky, as they tend to be spread far and wide, but with a little bit of luck and hunting, you can easily find them all—well, almost.
Thralls are NPCs that can be captured and enslaved by the player in Conan Exiles. They can perform various tasks such as crafting, fighting, guarding, and harvesting resources. Obtaining thralls is a complex and challenging process that requires preparation, strategy, and patience.
The first step to obtaining thralls is to craft a truncheon and some fiber bindings. The truncheon is a non-lethal weapon that can knock out NPCs with enough hits. The fiber bindings are used to drag the unconscious NPCs to a wheel of pain. The wheel of pain is a device that breaks the will of the thralls and makes them loyal to the player. The wheel of pain can be crafted with wood, iron bars, twine, and stone.
The second step is to find a suitable NPC to capture. There are different types of NPCs in Conan Exiles, such as exiles, Darfari cannibals, Stygians, Nordheimers, and more. Each type has different attributes, skills, and appearances. Some NPCs are more valuable than others, depending on the player's needs and preferences. For example, a blacksmith thrall can craft higher-quality weapons and armor, while a fighter thrall can defend the player's base from enemies.
The third step is to knock out the NPC with the truncheon. This can be tricky, as some NPCs are more resistant than others and may fight back or flee. The player has to be careful not to kill the NPC by accident or let them bleed out. The player also has to watch out for other hostile NPCs or creatures that may interfere with the capture. Once the NPC is knocked out, the player has to equip the fiber bindings and drag them to the wheel of pain.
The fourth step is to place the NPC on the wheel of pain and provide them with food and water. The NPC will slowly lose their health and stamina as they are tortured on the wheel. The player has to keep them alive by feeding them regularly with different types of food, such as gruel, meat, or fish. The food also affects the speed of the conversion process. For example, gruel is cheap and easy to make, but it takes longer to break the NPC's will than meat or fish.
The final step is to wait until the NPC becomes a thrall. This can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the type and level of the NPC and the quality of the food. The player can check the progress of the conversion by looking at the wheel of pain's inventory. When the NPC becomes a thrall, they will appear as an item in the inventory that can be picked up and placed in the world.
Thralls are valuable assets in Conan Exiles that can enhance the player's gameplay experience. However, obtaining thralls is not an easy task and requires planning, skill, and time. The player has to weigh the benefits and costs of capturing and maintaining thralls while respecting their human rights and dignity.
When hunting, it is recommended to bring at least one other person—someone to taunt and distract the thralls you don’t want, and one to go and capture the one you do want.
Thralls are captured NPCs that can be used for various purposes in Conan Exiles. They can be fighters, archers, dancers, craftsmen, or bearers. The value of a thrall depends on the player's needs and preferences, but some thralls are generally more useful than others. For example, a fighter thrall can help defend a base or accompany the player in combat, while a dancer thrall can provide entertainment and remove corruption.
Thralls have different levels of quality, ranging from 1 to 4. Level 4 thralls are also known as named thralls and have unique names and appearances. They are the rarest and most powerful thralls in the game. The level of a thrall affects its stats, such as health, damage, and crafting speed. Higher-level thralls also require more time and resources to break on a wheel of pain, which is the device used to convert captured NPCs into loyal followers. The player will need to feed them gruel, a simple food made from plant fibers and seeds, to keep them alive during the process.
Another factor that influences the value of a thrall is its equipment. Thralls can wield a variety of weapons and armor, which are not determined by their level. Some weapons and armor are better suited for certain thralls than others. For example, a fighter thrall might benefit from heavy armor and a sword and shield combo, while an archer thrall might prefer light armor and a bow and arrow set. The player can customize the equipment of their thralls by accessing their inventory and swapping items. However, some items are restricted to certain thrall types or factions. Paying attention to the weapons and armor of thralls is important for maximizing their potential and performance.
Combining this with limited slots of availability on lesser wheels and regular wheels of pain means every player will have to value what they capture. Below is a list of thralls based on my personal experience and a value for them. They are valued from high to low. These values are subjective based on my gameplay experience.
Thrall Type | Location | Job |
---|---|---|
Arid Nexus Thralls | The Den of the Crocodilian | Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Cook, Priest, Smelter, Tanner, Taskmaster |
Black Hand Thralls | The Black Keep | Alchemist, Armorer, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Cook, Priest, Smelter, Tanner, Taskmaster |

It is important to also note these are just the thralls available during Early access at this time. There is nothing to say there will not be more thralls in the future or that 3 is the highest level.
